Community Engagement

Seeks to establish the ACLA as a trusted and accessible resource for communities in LA for all matters of architecture. Partners with neighborhoods and communities on events that can promote the value of design, address community needs, and introduce careers in architecture to students throughout the city.

MISSION

Our Community Engagement Committee works with neighborhood partners to craft initiatives such as walking tours and neighborhood council partnerships with a particular focus on West Adams, our new home. Through Community Tent Events, ACLA improves the lives of residents by fostering community-centered design, bringing architects directly to the community under pop-up tents at community events such as Farmer’s Markets throughout Los Angeles, CicLAvia, and public neighborhood festivals. These tent events also feature activities for K-12 children and their parents.

Previous Events
CicLAvia
In partnership with CicLAvia - which aims "to catalyze vibrant public spaces, active transportation, and good health through car-free street events"- ACLA has been among the many pop-community tents along the Mid-City CiLAvia route. We are engaging participants to "ask an architect," discover the value of architecture, and learn about our new Center.
Highland Park Farmers Market
We have participated in the Sugar Hill Festival, Highland Park Farmer's Market, Welling Square Farmer's Market, and most recently, the Sugar Hill Walking Tour in partnership with Architecture+Advocacy.
Oasis Arts Festival
Our Community Engagement Committee participated in the 9th annual Oasis Arts Festival, hosted by the Oasis Center International and the 24th Street Elementary School, it’s focal point is to inspire and develop young people through arts programs and enhance the skills and opportunities in the local artist through community engagement. We were thrilled to engage with young children and incentivize their creativity and talents by asking them to participate by drawing the other half of our community center which is in development in West Adams, they did tremendous work!
